Tom Hucker
Silver Spring, Maryland, May 19– After considering the answers to a rather lengthy questionnaire, and after much discussion, the Ethiopian-American Council of North America (EAC) has decided to throw its social and financial support to the candidacy of The Honorable Tom Hucker for Council Member of District 5 of Montgomery County. Mr. Hucker is currently serving as a Maryland State Delegate from Montgomery County.
The Ethiopian-American community is one of the fastest growing ethnic communities in Montgomery County and has many small business owners and entrepreneurs among its members. EAC is very mindful of the business environment in Maryland and is focused on the strength of its youth – that they retain their cultural heritage, but gain enough expertise to be active members of the social and political American scene in Montgomery County.
Mr. Hucker’s thoughtful answers to their questions has indicated to EAC that he is the person most likely to include and benefit Ethiopian-Americans and other immigrant and ethnic communities in Montgomery County as it grows into a multi-cultural future.
Mr. Hucker has indicated that he is willing to help his Ethiopian-American constituents in a number of areas:
• He would like to help the Ethiopian-American community establish a community center and perhaps a cultural heritage museum of national importance for Ethiopian-Americans across the land.
• He understands the need of the community to be recognized for its entrepreneurial labor and ardent citizenship that is improving the life of all residents of Montgomery County.
• His answers regarding the abysmal state of immigration reform in the United States indicate that he is for fast reform that devises a fair path to citizenship for all people currently living in the shadows.
• He has offered to help the youngsters of the Ethiopian-American community gain experience in the social and political life of Montgomery County, the state of Maryland, and the United States, through internships and other activities supported by the county government.
EAC and other members of the Ethiopian-American community in Montgomery County perceive they have a forward-thinking friend in Mr. Hucker. With the financial and political support they deem necessary, work will be underway in the Ethiopian-American communities to ensure that Mr. Tom Hucker gains the Council Member seat, District 5, in Montgomery County
